International trade of pharmaceuticals involves vast amounts of data - all of which is spread acheck multiple sources, in multiple languages, different data structures, different currencies, and various other complicating factors.
Within each country, there are thousands of product registrations, shortages are being announced daily, clinical trials start around the globe constantly, and competition is forever evolving. It’s logical for teams to use a market intelligence tool that tracks this data and makes it easier to navigate, such as PharmaFootpath, or Pharma14.
Pharma14 has been established for a number of years, and is widely known within different pharma wholesalers.
PharmaFootpath in contrast, is a more recent addition to the market, offering more specific information designed for a more narrow group of professionals.
Pharma14 continues to be well used by companies that also need to track data from South America, the Middle East, or Asia.
PharmaFootpath has been increasingly adopted by parallel trading companies, and businesses with a European sourcing focus.

PharmaFootpath updates new registrations and deregistrations on a weekly basis, ensuring the latest information is provided to users. Products that are no longer commercialised are removed from search results by default (but can be included).
Pharma14 updates less frequently, and includes products that are no longer commercialised in their search results.
PharmaFootpath updates shortages for included markets daily, allowing traders to quickly identify where they have products that could be exported to resolve supply shortages in other markets immediately. PharmaFootpath integrates shortage data into its product search results.
Pharma14 updates shortage information less frequently, which still provides insights into historical shortage trends, but less focus on the current market. Pharma14 requires users to check reference products they identify to check the latest shortage information.
PharmaFootpath is heavily focussed on providing more in depth European market data, with selected other markets such as UK, USA, Canada, and Australia. It's likely other markets will be included in future, but they're not present today.
Pharma14 is clearly more globally focussed, including product registration information from South America, Asia, and the Middle East. If it's important for you to have product registration information from these regions, this is likely to be an important deciding factor.
PharmaFootpath tracks tens of thousands of parallel trade licenses, sorted chronologically, with many national parallel trade licenses containing the country that the PI company sources the product from. This market data is giving its customers a real edge in monitoring competition and finding commercially valuable insights.
Pharma14 also tracks a large number of PI licenses, but requires users to search by active ingredient to view them. Importantly, origin data is not included, meaning that companies with a focus on parallel trade are likely to miss crucial data available in PharmaFootpath.
PharmaFootpath allows users to search for active ingredients and presentations in different markets, and then review how many marketing authorisation holders are in the search results. There is not currently functionality that allows a user to search for products that only have a single MA holder of an active ingredient and presentation.
Pharma14 allows a user to select a country, and then view where there is a specific number of MA holders (e.g. all the products where there is a specific active ingredient and presentation combination that has no competition). This could potentially be useful to MA holders looking to launch competitor products in new international markets.
PharmaFootpath captures WDA licenses, and structures them in a searchable and filterable way (such as viewing only those with 'cold chain' on their license). This allows users to find new suppliers and partners in markets they are looking to source and/or supply to.
Pharma14 does not include any WDA license data.
PharmaFootpath focuses on the latest list price data for all markets it covers, regularly updating the ex-factory, wholesale, and retail prices. There is not currently tender price information from within those markets as well, though it does track which companies are winning contracts to supply products in different markets.
Pharma14 states they provide tender price information from selected markets. This could prove useful to MA holders that are considering registering their products in a different market, and can view the tender price that a competitor has secured ongoing supply at.
PharmaFootpath tracks tens of thousands of clinical trials globally, interconnecting this data with active ingredients. This allows companies that have a portfolio of products that they wish to promote to CROs or trials directly, are quickly able to find relevant information and links to the trial details.
Pharma14 does not include clinical trial information.
If you’re looking for depth of information in European data, Pharma Footpath is likely to be the best choice for parallel traders, unlicensed medicines, clinical trial supply, shortages, or other trade.
If it’s crucial you need product registration information from international markets like Asia, South America, or the Middle East - Pharma14 may remain the better choice (for now!).
